Iron Man 2

I thoroughly enjoyed Iron Man 2. Maybe not quite as much as 1, and boy I am still kicking myself for not seeing that in theaters, but I still enjoyed it plenty.

The main thing I kept thinking as I left the movie theater is...where is the Iron Man/Top Gear fanfic. You KNOW Tony's been a Star in a Reasonably Priced Car before. And maybe it'll even be one of the challenges. Tony will give Jezza, Hampster and Captain Slow their own arc reactors, and then they'll have to build their suits...FROM A BOX OF SCRAPS.

My second reaction was mostly... Holy Shit Tony, what did you do to the Shield? It was FINE in the last movie!

I have worked in Manufacturing too long if I was analyzing Hammer's production lines. (That floor was too clean, no tow motor has ever been on that floor)

Ok, anyway, the good things:

Happy vs. Natasha.

Happy's fight at Hammer's vs. Natasha's fight at Hammer's

Justin Hammer and his tanner hands. (was anyone else reminded of Dana Carvey?)

The fact that everything 'Natalie' wore was almost exactly what Pepper was wearing, but with 5% more sex. I'm betting Natasha studied Pepper before trying to infiltrate.

Bambi Arbogast!!

Stan Lee's cameo!

Rhodey at the very beginning, when he can't help thinking that Tony taking over the presentation is awesome. And Rhodey from the time they weaponize War Machine to the end on the roof.

The whole end of the movie. Tony & Rhodey banter... Pepper taking out Hammer with the power of...utterly ignoring him...

The Not good things:

I'm not anti Tony/Pepper for the movies, but boy was that just tacked on at the end for no good reason. Big Meh there.

I'm with [livejournal.com profile] flidgetjerome that the 'new element' scene was lame. She because she knows enough chemistry to know that it doesn't work that way, and me because I'm not buying you making it in an afternoon with junk you have lying around the house. Though I at least give you props for knowing that the blue laser is the really powerful kind. I liked the palladium poisoning plot, but I've read plenty of fic that could have ended that better.

I would have liked it if the actors had given each other a little more time to get their lines out. I know the ad-libbing-talking-on-top-of-each-other thing is part of the charm, but it was turned up to 11, and I wouldn't have minded if it had been at an 8. It was kind of like an entire movie of Ruffnut & Tuffnut. I'm going to have to watch it a few more times to figure out all the dialog (not that that would be a hardship).

So yeah, good times.

Actually if the entire point of the whole new element (isotope, isotope, damn it!) plot was that Stark Sr didn't have the technology to make it . . . Dude, I know the 50s were way behind technology levels these days but this guy, by Tony's own dialog, died in the late 80s. I am pretty sure that high technology in the 80s, accelerator/collider-wise, would be at least as capable as any kit Tony could physically fit into his basement.

Conclusion - Tony? Fury's lying, your dad really is a douche.

I am so on board with Howard the douche. I hate Dumbledorian reveals. Especially since Howard isn't a wizard who can see the future or anything. Because, yeah, he'll let some Russian spy sneak off with the plans to the Arc Reactor, but he won't tell Tony...or Obidiah for that matter...about some flaw or potential upgrade that doesn't exist yet?

Does not compute. There are just so many things wrong with this scenario that I get messed up just trying to write this comment. I can't decide what tangent to explore first.
