Back from Kentucky, had a very nice visit, despite not really doing much of anything besides the interview. The flight down was nice enough. This month Northwest's Magazine has articles on Lily Tomlin and Feng Shui masters in Hong Kong...which is odd considering I just started reading a book on Feng Shui because of Hong Kong.
The company I interviewed with set me up very nicely. I had the most gorgeous rental car, a gray Pontiac Bonneville. Took me like 10 minutes just to figure out how to adjust the seat there were so many dials and such on the side of the seat. Leather interior, CD player, all that good stuff. Had a moment of panic when I pulled out on the highway since whoever drove it last had it set to kilometers and not miles.
Me: Dude, I am waay speeding! This ride is so smooth, I sure don't feel like I'm going 80!
Car: That's 80km doofus.
Me: Oh. Well, I'll just hit this reset button on the dash, shall I?
The hotel was likewise nice, though not easy to find. The street it's on isn't marked. I was actually pulling in because there was a gas station and a Mickey D's I thought I could get directions at. But then I saw the hotel and all was well. I didn't mind the getting lost so much because I ended up out with the horses and pretty.
The interview itself went fairly well. Thanks to everyone who wished me luck. They seemed pretty nice, the job seems...like a job. Not all that and a bag of chips, but not soul sucking either. The HR guy said Japanese was nice, but not neccesary for the job. But considering that the whiteboard in the conference room was in Japanese, and other than the HR guy, everyone in the building looked Japanese...I don't know how they'd expect a non-speaker to get around.
The flight home was a very tiny plane. Yee! The kind where they even stow your carryon's because there's no room. The guy in front of me was friendly, and turned out to be an anime fan on his way to a con in DC.
So that was my trip to Lexington, and yet another plane flight in the last few months.
