The best thing about Netflix is that has so much more than any video store could possibly have. This weekend Netflix has brought me 'The Story of One' a cute documentary narrated by Terry Jones about the history of the number one (and zero), and a Japanese movie adapted from a manga called 'Honey and Clover'

The opening line of Honey and Clover was "I love the cherry blossoms, but somehow I feel relieved when they fall." I thought "Oh God, it's going to be one of THOSE movies" and almost turned it off. But I didn't because every time I thought about giving up on it there would be one funny/cute moment. And I'm glad I stuck with it. It turned out to be one of those GOOD coming of age movies. The kind of movie that makes you nostalgic for high school/college friendships, and even MORE nostalgic for the way things weren't, but you thought they would be.

*happy sigh*

That's so cool to hear! I've seen it a couple of times and wondered if it was worth pursuing...

Eventually, Viz is supposed to have episodes of the Honey and Clover anime on its website for streaming and/or downloading, and when they do, I highly, HIGHLY recommend checking it out. I haven't seen the movie, so I can't compare, but the anime is really, really good.

Ooh, thanks for the heads up! I've really been enjoying the movies Vis has been bringing over. Love Con was hilarious, and Densha Otoko is a favorite. I think next for me is Nana.

Oh man, I LOVE the Love Con manga, I need to remember to get that movie. I should really check out Honey & Clover, too.

I have kind of a love/hate relationship with Nana...but the first movie takes place before everything goes to shit, so it's a lot of fun. (I STILL can't forgive the casting of Shin-chan, but he's barely in the movie at all, so you probably won't even notice.)

The Love Con movie has made me think about getting into the manga. The movie was so adorable and funny and manic.

Nana I've only read a chapter or two of. It didn't really ping me, but maybe the movie will be cute.

That is pretty much exactly how I'd describe the manga. So...yeah. Read it. XD

After twenty-some volumes of manga, the message I take away from Nana is "Relationships are shit, friends are forever!" (I don't think that's what the mangaka is trying to say, but...) So, the friendship stuff (and the humor) I like, 90% of the relationship/romance stuff makes me want to beat my head against the wall. (There are one or two sane, stable couples in the mess there somewhere.)

It was you who posted that clip from 'Big Bang Theory' awhile back, wasn't it? I hope so, because I just found this and had to share. http://www.thinkgeek.com/tshirts-apparel/womens/b9c7/
