Finally, we got something that we could all compromise on and all be happy with. Lucas went through years of grousing and second-guessing by fans who picked apart his "Star Wars" prequels. He expects the same on "Crystal Skull," saying it's impossible to satisfy hardcore fans. "Whenever you do a film like this, people expect the Second Coming, and that's not what it is. So fans all get grumpy, the critics are already grumpy," Lucas said. "If you're going to say, 'I'm going to get my Academy Award this year and finally I'm going to be loved by all the critics, and the fans are just going to go crazy' -- not going to happen."

Oh for the love of god, Lucas. It isn't some mythical unpleasable fanboy you pissed off, it was YOUR ENTIRE FANBASE. The best your loyal fans could do was pretend it didn't happen.

He said it was to make the movie that he, Speilberg and Ford wanted to see. And I can understand that....you have to make something that you enjoy, and not pander.

But the fact that Ford and Spielberg balked at the idea is not a good sign.

And aliens? That is so not the IJ universe. Every single IJ movie has the power of either the Christian God or Shiva (I think it was Shiva?) playing a part. He's basically just ripping off Stargate at this point. If Shia le Bouf looks into the eyes of a Crystal Skull and dissapears I'm going to kill him.

I don't want George Lucas' vision. I want it filtered through the lens of someone with a modicum of writing ability.

George Lucas is one of those people who just reduces me to incomprehensible mutterings and hand-waving. I wasn't expecting the second coming, you fuck, all I wanted was decent writing. That wasn't so out there, seeing as some of the Star Wars novels are fairly good reads. Clearly we should just let the fans overrun him like amazonian ants until there is nothing left but a skeleton and a canon.
