kaitouAnother weird day. Not quite as weird as Monday, but it had it's own special highlights. This morning I had a phone interview with a company in Ohio. Or at least I should have. I was waiting early, ready with pen and paper. Right on the dot, the phone rang. But it was not Ohio. No, it was one of the headhunting companies I did the translation for, thanking me for finishing and sending it. "GET OFF THE PHONE!" I yelled. Mentally, that is. I was perfectly polite. Then I checked the voicemail, and found nothing. I heaved a sigh of relief and waited. And waited. And waited.
The Ohio lady must have called while I was checking the voicemail. I panicked and tried to call her back, but all I got was voice mail, each time I tried. I finally got in touch with her at two in the afternoon. Apparently they were changing offices and her phone was disconnected. She didn't even get my messages! I thought the whole thing was a disaster, but I must not have done too badly because it looks like they want a follow-up next week in Ohio. Yay me!
Then I drove down to the interview with Aflac. I knew going in that it was going to be a waste of time going in. I don't want to be a life insurance salesman-woman. But what can I say, they have donuts. It was a group presentation. They did their Aflac song and dance. Sold me on the insurance, if not the job. If I am in a position for Aflac, seems like a good deal. As part of the presentation they talked about Aflac in Japan. Which is when the guy remembered that I spoke Japanese. The two managers were giddy with excitement. They love the Japanese Aflac commercials. So instead of having a Question & Answer session at the end, they showed the Japanese commercials off the internet and had me translate. Lucky for them I could bring an even better angle than just the translations. Since the spokesman (along with the duck, who's name is Edgar) is the guy who plays Badass Muroi in Odoru Daisousasen. Mr. Badass, strumming the guitar and singing. Wow.
So yeah, weird day.
