Ok, so guys, I need your help deciding something here, because I'm being as indecisive as I ever am. I've finally hit the point where it's time to switch to Blu Ray. I didn't want to do it because I have my nice region-free DVD player to watch Odoru Daisousasen on. But the industry has stopped putting extras on DVD's and I love commentary and making of specials and all that good stuff.

So I looked at Blu Ray players, and then I thought 'well, if I'm gonna get a blu ray player, I might as well get one that plays games, get a PS3.'

But today I thought to myself...there's really not a whole lot I want to play for the PS3. I mean, everything [livejournal.com profile] twigcollins showed me was reaaaaaally pretty. But there's no game currently that makes me want it desperately. (there are a few I wouldn't mind playing surely, but nothing that I yearn for) So should I spend an extra $150 to have the option to play games? Or should I save the money and use it to start up a little library of the Blu Ray discs that I want?

hmmm. I guess it depends if you are going to want a PS3 at some later time. If that's the case, you would then have a blu-ray player and a PS3, which is kind of superfluous. If you think you're gonna want a PS3 later on down the track, then I would maybe buy it now, so that you have the option available to you if necessary.

I can highly recommend the PS3 because while I waited 4 years to finally see a Final Fantasy title for it, it was worth it. Plus the ability to play PS1 and 2 games (and the remote play option for PSP makes it worthwhile too) is pretty good.

while Blue Ray players are coming down in price and the PS3 is staying relatively stable, it's still a good deal because of the extra options. You will want to do your research further of course, but I can rec the PS3 highly and you are...for all intents and purposes, a gamer too. I've had mine for four years I think and not a technical issue to be had, plus...whenever I've bought some bootlegged DVDs that my regular DVD player wasn't able to play, the PS3 came to my rescue (thank god too, because that DS9 boxed set my wife picked up was unplayable without the blue ray player!!! SO WORTH IT!)

I vote yes, but I'm really good at spending other people's money. :)

I would vote for the PS3 - I would say that Assassin's Creed 1 and 2 are both fantastic amounts of fun, and the next team ICO game is going to be PS3 only, and was one of my main reasons for getting the system. I can report no issues with mine, and I've had it for two years or so at this point.
