Late to the Party

Okay, so I posted about Trek and knitting a couple of times now. But apparently I haven't gotten Reboot Trek out of my system. So much so that I'm pretty much completely obsessed. I thought maybe babbling about it a bit might help.
I never really got into any of the Treks as a fandom, probably because it's been a low-level interest since before I knew what fandom was. My parents started me on Next Gen, and we faithfully watched every incarnation. (Dad even managed to like Enterprise enough to download a vid of the opening) But I never watched much of the Original. Just one of those things I never got around to. I mean, I've seen a bit, and seen some of the movies, and have a fairly decent understanding of the history of it.
But man, the movie hit so many buttons for me. Makes me wish I'd gotten into TOS more. Makes me hope there will be a zillion more movies. Makes me wish that they'd do a TV show with these people, writers (and equivalent budget). How do I love thee? Let's count the ways...(in no particular order)...
I Don't Know Kung Fu-
Oh Kirk, you may just take away Prince Arthur's title as my favorite Maiden in Distress. I love that he didn't really manage to win a single fight in the whole movie (other than the 'got your gun'), got strangled twice and dangled from a precipice no fewer than three times. I sincerely hope that the next movie finds him tied to a railroad track at some point.
And Yet Seekritly Ossim-
I have such a soft spot for what TV Tropes calls 'Crouching Moron Hidden Badass.' Kirk may act like a ditz, but he's smart! Really! I'm already starting to collect fic where he becomes a good captain and leader through what I think of as 'Sailor Moon Leadership' and slowly builds this team of amazing people who are all very loyal to each other through his Stupid-But-Loveable-And-Somehow-Still-Brilliant skillz.
Chekov-
Aren't you the cutest thing to ever navigate a starship? Yes you are!
Odd Numbered Movies-
I love fictional engineers...they can do anything. And Simon Pegg as Scotty is hilarious and pragmatic, and consistently gets the best lines. Also, Simon Pegg must have been cursed with anti-prophesy at some point. After doing 'Shawn of the Dead' he was asked if he was going off to be a Hollywood star. He said no, 'he wasn't going to be off doing Mission Impossible III or anything.' Of course his next movie was Mission Impossible III. And in Spaced he joked about all the Odd Numbered Trek movies being awful. So naturally he's in number 11. (Or 1 if you count it as a completely new thing. Either way)
In a Handbasket-
I'm sure there's a better 'Fuck You' in cinema history, but right now I can't think of anything better than Spock's "Live Long and Prosper" to the Science Academy.
Nyota-
For really not getting to do much in the movie, Nyota is still indisputably made of awesome and win and wrapped up in sexy with a badass ribbon. And I like the idea of Spock/Uhura too.
Promiscuous Boy-
Back to Kirk again. I love that this is his default mode, his cruise control. I've seen some places talking about a Spock/Uhura/Kirk love triangle, but honestly I didn't see it. Kirk, I think, kept needling her more because he could than out of active intent. I think with her firmly in a relationship he'll stop hitting on her, and tease her about that instead. I think it's more about getting a rise, any rise, out of her.
And there's more, but I'm starting to suffer from post-lunch Robert Goulet Brain.
