Well, it's been a long time coming, but I've finally broken down and gotten a pet. A cat named Roxy. She's an extremely sweet British Shorthair (just like happy cat!) that didn't work out for breeding (her first litter was delivered c-section), so the cattery put her up for adoption.

Ok, actually I can't get a good picture, because she's still hiding under the bed most of the time. But I thought it made a very meta macro.
But I DO have a picture from the cattery so you can see what she looks like...

Date: 2009-03-02 12:58 am (UTC)Damn you
laser catsAnn-sempai, damn you! You have brought out the big guns, and now the Mews will have to... to... come out and visit you!...But not before Roxy comes out from under the bed. We don't want to traumatize her
any more than the gang of us would already.no subject

I've found, by the way, that for the naming of cats, it helps if their name has a distinct vowel sound(s), different from the vowels of other names used in the house. That's not so important with just you and Roxy, but if you decide to change her name, she may acclimate to it faster if you use the "ah" sound of the 'o' in Roxy in whatever name you give her.
Of course if you use her name when you call her for treats and food, and don't use her actual name for calling her for things like medicine or claw clipping, she'll learn to love any name you give her right quick. ^__^

Date: 2009-03-02 02:23 am (UTC)Also, I melted. Meeeelted. Roxy looks like a total sweetie, and once she's warmed up and has started to come out and explore more, I bet you she'll be a very pleasant kitty. (I think most new kitties once they come home hide under the bed first! Cali and Mato both started out that way, and Mato still heads straight for the bed whenever the apartment is invaded, even if she already knows the invaders.)
So cute! Congratulations on having adopted your first furry thing!

Date: 2009-03-02 01:49 pm (UTC)Seriously, and I even named Aramis after the wrong musketeer... he should have been Porthos I think, the wine-women-and-song one, not the surly old bastard one... I got confused as to which was which *sigh* wikipedia wasn't the tour-de-fource then that it was now.
You can always think of a nickname for her and leave her officially 'Roxy' but yeah, if you can end it in the same long vowel she's already used to she'll probably be more interested. I have no idea why but it works for dogs too. Looking at her cute little face I have this urge to dub her something 'adorable' like 'Lucy' or something. but i think that's just me being retarded. :-D

Date: 2009-03-02 02:39 pm (UTC)What anime is 'Maki' in?
(And I love Aramis's name...Aramis, and H&J's Architect and Tesla...great great names)

Date: 2009-03-03 06:38 pm (UTC)when I first got maki she was easily upset by loud noises, motion, strange smells, people, life at large... and then she'd follow her brother around like a little ghost as he went off galivanting bravely into the unknown. One of those classic "I don't want to go out there, no wait don't leave me!" sort of things. So the name worked for her. XD she's mellowed Slightly since then, but... not much. :-D

Date: 2009-03-03 08:03 pm (UTC)I'd love to say she'll listen after sufficient practice. but yeah. Aramis and I still have occassional wars when he just Really wants attention. At that point I'm obliged to stop typing and fuzz his head for a few minutes, then he'll sit next to me like a good goober. Twig can attest that he's also a bastard about getting underfoot with desktop PC usage as well, so there's no winning. They know when they're being ignored. :-P
