Well, it's been a long time coming, but I've finally broken down and gotten a pet. A cat named Roxy. She's an extremely sweet British Shorthair (just like happy cat!) that didn't work out for breeding (her first litter was delivered c-section), so the cattery put her up for adoption.

Ok, actually I can't get a good picture, because she's still hiding under the bed most of the time. But I thought it made a very meta macro.

But I DO have a picture from the cattery so you can see what she looks like...

Aw. What a beautiful tortie. I love how her head is larger and her face slightly flatter than on an American Shorthair's.

I think they're built a little stockier than the American shorthair. I wanted this breed in particular because they're supposed to be affectionate, but they don't really miss you if you're at work all day. And she's so pretty and sweet!

Ohhhh sweet baby! *falls in lurve*

Damn you laser cats Ann-sempai, damn you! You have brought out the big guns, and now the Mews will have to... to... come out and visit you!

...But not before Roxy comes out from under the bed. We don't want to traumatize her any more than the gang of us would already.

you say that like it would be a BAD thing. (the visit, not the traumatizing)

Well, other than the rest of the Mews restraining me while I try to pack the entire house for the visit, it wouldn't be bad at all. I love road trips, I just hate starting them. Weird but true; I seem to suffer some separation anxiety so prepping and taking off on a trip drive me batty but I love being on the road and going to new destinations and seeing friends.

So I always appreciate it, massively, when I get a visit. Just so ya know. ^__~

I've found, by the way, that for the naming of cats, it helps if their name has a distinct vowel sound(s), different from the vowels of other names used in the house. That's not so important with just you and Roxy, but if you decide to change her name, she may acclimate to it faster if you use the "ah" sound of the 'o' in Roxy in whatever name you give her.

Of course if you use her name when you call her for treats and food, and don't use her actual name for calling her for things like medicine or claw clipping, she'll learn to love any name you give her right quick. ^__^

So cute, and so shy!!

(and yes, we know that they house is too small for a full-sized invasion. Doesn't curb the temptation, though!)

I could totally handle some small scale invasions though!

*dons tiny suit of armor*

Small scale it is, then!

What eyes you have! This may sound weird, but she looks like Halloween to me. And was she already named Roxy, or did you dub her that?

(and that was a much more pleasant macro than the godzilla bukkake ones Warren Ellis has spawned, so... o_0;)

She does look very Halloween-y, I agree. According to her papers she is, "Castleray Roxanne of Dertatz" out of "Positively Oscar Wilde" and "Trubrit Poxitively Jewel O' 7Star" I'm not in love with 'Roxy' but I don't know that I want to rename her.

(and I totally don't want to know about Warren Ellis macros, do I?)

No, you don't want to know.

Despite being thoroughly disgusted, I did laugh pretty hard at a couple of these.

That macro is awesomely meta, hon.

Also, I melted. Meeeelted. Roxy looks like a total sweetie, and once she's warmed up and has started to come out and explore more, I bet you she'll be a very pleasant kitty. (I think most new kitties once they come home hide under the bed first! Cali and Mato both started out that way, and Mato still heads straight for the bed whenever the apartment is invaded, even if she already knows the invaders.)

So cute! Congratulations on having adopted your first furry thing!

I think she's fine with me, I think it's the house she's not sure of. But she's finally starting to get a little adventurous, which means it's time to hide the knitting.

D'awww! She looks so soft and fuzzy! And I love her beautiful coloring--and the one paw that looks like she stepped in black paint. So cute!

It's a really unusual coat for her breed I think. The breeder told me that when she showed her some people thought she was an alley cat!

Roxy is a bit weird for a cat I suppose, but who am I to talk, I named one after a Musketeer, and the other after a constantly-quailing side character from a bad anime I was watching at the time (both names disturbingly apt, in the long run).

Seriously, and I even named Aramis after the wrong musketeer... he should have been Porthos I think, the wine-women-and-song one, not the surly old bastard one... I got confused as to which was which *sigh* wikipedia wasn't the tour-de-fource then that it was now.

You can always think of a nickname for her and leave her officially 'Roxy' but yeah, if you can end it in the same long vowel she's already used to she'll probably be more interested. I have no idea why but it works for dogs too. Looking at her cute little face I have this urge to dub her something 'adorable' like 'Lucy' or something. but i think that's just me being retarded. :-D

I don't think I could do Lucy, Lucy was the heroine of one of my Nano's.

What anime is 'Maki' in?

(And I love Aramis's name...Aramis, and H&J's Architect and Tesla...great great names)

I think it was 'argent soma'. She was the hero's constantly-too-insecure-to-commit-too-shy-to-speak girlfriend who died tragically and gave him an excuse to be an emo bastard for the rest of the show.

when I first got maki she was easily upset by loud noises, motion, strange smells, people, life at large... and then she'd follow her brother around like a little ghost as he went off galivanting bravely into the unknown. One of those classic "I don't want to go out there, no wait don't leave me!" sort of things. So the name worked for her. XD she's mellowed Slightly since then, but... not much. :-D

I think my cat is kind of the same way. She's very skittish about any noise or sudden movement, but she likes me just fine. I can see there are going to be problems in the future because she already gets agitated that the laptop is on my lap and not her.

Ahaha yes Aramis and I still have wars about that occassionally. just keep gently picking her up and fitting her Next to you when she jumps up (if you leave room for her or provide a fuzzy nesting blanket it'll probably help instill the habit) you can eventually get her to make the connection that companionship is grand, just not On the keyboard....

I'd love to say she'll listen after sufficient practice. but yeah. Aramis and I still have occassional wars when he just Really wants attention. At that point I'm obliged to stop typing and fuzz his head for a few minutes, then he'll sit next to me like a good goober. Twig can attest that he's also a bastard about getting underfoot with desktop PC usage as well, so there's no winning. They know when they're being ignored. :-P
