I'd wondered if the first was HanaKimi, but I don't remember that scene at all.

And I'd actually thought maybe the last was Waterboys, despite not ever having seen it or heard anything of it more than seeing the front cover at the video store. XD

The scene in Hana Kimi really early on in the series, volume 3 or 4 if I remember right. For the long time it held my record for number of shojou cliches that can be fit into a single chapter. But then I saw the first episode of Winter Sonata, and DAMN. I caught at least 14 shojou cliches in the first ep alone.

Waterboys is such outrageous love. The movie is best (what with the flaming afro and giving CPR to a dolphin) but the show definitely has it's moments. Like the tough guy who's afraid of water slowly acclimating himself by sticking his head in a bucket of water while wearing water wings. Or when the beautiful teacher loses her engagement ring at the pool and must confess to the stern soon-to-be-inlaws, and the boys are combing the area to in their blue speedos, find it, and go racing off on their bicycles to deliver it. And that's just the first series!

Yeah, I figured it must be early in the series. It's been so long since I read it, especially the early volumes, that I've forgotten pretty much all but the basic premise.
