Garbage bag of Nano ideas
Oct. 9th, 2005 01:08 pmSo here are basically all my options I'm considering for the up-coming Nanowrimo. Even ones I'm almost absolutely sure I won't do.
1. The Plot Cupons Option
This would be 'The Queen's Necklace,' my first failed Nano about a theif with fantastic luck (both good AND bad) who runs around tracking down lost diamonds so she can rebuild a lost necklace for fame and glory and bragging rights. Who da man? SHE da man! Except things never, ever, ever work out that way for her and she really ought to know that by now.
2. Regency/Fairytale Option
I've always loved the Twelve Dancing Princesses, and would love to retell it. It would be set in a Fantasy/Regency England. The twelve princesses being girls at a country house party, and the good soldier having just come home from the Napoleonic Wars.
3. Regency Geek Option
So I've been reading a lot of Heyer lately, so sue me! But enough with the Rakes and Pseudo-Darcy's already! Our heroine may be spoiled and a little shallow, but she's never really had a reason to grow. But when she goes and gets herself ruined, the Rake of her choice is not about to be reformed. So it's on to Plan B, the not as handsome-rich-or charming dull Mr. Nice Guy. But just maybe they can find happiness anyway.
4. Take the A Train
Last year's failed Nano. Takes place after a big war, and our hero, a reporter is a little messed up. He's convinced that he world is going to end soon and he takes a series of trains across country to see this new empire he's a part of. His goal is to get to the ocean before the world ends. On the way he meets up with a woman and her young son who are traveling to see the family of the boy's father, who died in the war. And they all get OK again.
5. In for a Pound
Finish 'In for a Penny.' I'll take a leaf from Tarantino's book and say that Nano2003 is Volume 1, and this is Volume 2. The title's already set up for it and everything. More Shakesperean/Zenda whackiness, but with more actual drama and serious stuff happening.
6. Momotaro
Takes place in a feudal Japan. Probably a psuedo-fantasy-Japan so I can ignore research and plausability for Nano. Three children escape from an attack on a daimyo's stronghold. The son of a minor samurai, the daugher of a powerful lord/political hostage, and the heir to the daimyo himself. They try to find somewhere safe to be and avoid being used as political pawns.
So those are the options I was thinking of. Anyone more in favor of one option over another? Or dont' care whatsoever?
