Weekend Festivities
Aug. 29th, 2005 10:43 amBusy busy weekend! I had such a good time. On Saturday I went to my bookcrossing club leader's 20th Anniversary party. I want her life so bad! She has a beautiful, beautiful loft downtown where you can watch the baseball field from the roof. The party had live music and delicious food. I even sat next to the mayor of one of Dayton's suburbs for dinner.
Then on Sunday I went out with one of the arc welders for lunch and a movie. I think I'm his new straight girlfriend. We went and saw The Brothers Grimm...which didn't seem to bother me nearly as much as some people! I think if you want to see a movie, with whats out right now, you could easily do worse. Visually it was pretty interesting. There were only a few special effects that bothered me very much. The plot was acutally decent, interesting blurring of the fairy tales. But the execution of the plot was pretty off. The interpersonal relations that the plot hangs on never really seemed to gel at any point. And of course there was a love triangle tacked on just because. Of course, taking swiss cheese plots and fleshing out what we think OUGHT to be there is a fangirl's specialty. And maybe because my expectations going in were pretty low...and I'm a sucker for ANYTHING fairytale, I actually had a pretty good time.
It's no Serenity...but it's no Dukes of Hazzard either.
