I come from a geeky family. There have been more computers than people in my household since the late '90s. My mom has a notebook and a desktop. I had 2 Vaio notebooks (one US, one Japanese tourist model...i.e. english OS/keyboard) and a desktop.

At my new job I got another laptop, an HP. It stays at work, where I have a docking station for it where it hooks up to a widescreen flatscreen monitor. The monitor his huuge. Apparently the better to see spreadsheets with.

And today there was a new laptop on my desk. The Japanese engineering manager just went back to Japan and left two Japanese VAIO notebooks behind. One of them went to the other translator, and one of them went to me. Not for work, but just because 'hey, they could probably use them.'

It's not in great shape. The screen is pretty much dead, and it might be more money to fix it than it's worth but...DUDE!

..........this better not be April Fools.

I'm reading a book on the history of salt, which alternates between really interesting and really boring. I hit an interesting bit at lunch today. [livejournal.com profile] twigcollins talks about Polish love of food, and I must believe her because I have found proof! Bigos (I now know) is sauerkraut with meat, bacon, pickled plums and other fruit. The making of it is mentioned in the Pan Tadeusz, the Polish national poem.
