Getting Down with the Mad Beats
Jun. 24th, 2005 10:53 amI went to the mall last weekend. (Yes, now that it's Friday, I'm finally blogging about last week) And when I went to the bookstore I found out that the Shojo Beat, Shojou answer to Shonen Jump is out. I'm pretty pleasantly surprised. For one thing it pulls a story from just about each of the major shojou publishers instead of all being from the same like Shonen Jump, and it actually has a pretty good crossection of the subgenres. They've got Nana for the 'realistic' romance story. Absolute Boyfriend for the magic/sf genre...plus pulling in something from a more famous artist. Baby & Me for an old classic. Godchild, for the High Gothic Shojou. Kaze Hikaru, for your cross-dressing shojou. And Crimson Heart for a sports manga.
I'm doubly pleaseed because Crimson Heart was one I kept thinking about picking up and never did, and now I wish I had. AND! They had ads for the release of Antique Bakery and Ouran High School Host Club which are both ridiculously funny. I love Host Club and the sheer ridiculousness of it, especially the twins who gay at each other specifically to get girls. Antique Bakery wins for the cute uke baker who sheds his glasses and sweet smile, puts on a leather jacket and proves himself a seme.
