Mr. Lucas,

Don't you dare ruin Indiana Jones for me. I've only just gotten over the devastation of Star Wars...mostly by not seeing Episode II ever, and Episode III only under duress. But Indy is so much nearer and dearer to my heart.

I've been wary ever since I heard rumors on ign.com. I mean, Harrison Ford is awesome, but he is getting on a bit to be adventuring. But, I thought, if you handled it right...put it in the right time period, it's doable. And I don't know anything about Shia LaBeouf, but he seems like a ok guy, (but I miss Sean Patrick Flannery). I'm trying to give you the benefit of the doubt, which is so hard after being burned so badly before.

But now you've come out with a title. And George, we both know that you're no great shakes at titles (Phantom Menace? Hel-lo!). But...Kingdom of the Crystal Skull?? Good grief that's bad. And it can only make me think that you're going to do something involving the Belize Crystal Skull, which is just sad. There are so many better historic things you could be going after...like, something with a decent myth behind it. You don't want to be stealing ideas from Stargate SG-1, do you??? That's just sad.

This is your last warning Mr. Lucas.

Ann

P.S. I will still be getting the Young Indiana Jones Chronicles on DVD, regardless.

It's okay! It's okay!

If he tries anything Steven Speilberg will cut him.

This is mostly reassuring. Because Dude, I so wanted to be him when I was 13. However, he DID direct 'The Lost World: Jurassic Park" where they killed a golden retriever.

WHICH MADE ME CRY. It's really disconcerting to go into a summer blockbuster velociraptor gorefest and get slammed with cinematic canicide.

I am just going to hug you now.

Also, nothing will ever, ever be better than Last Crusade and I am astonished they are even trying.

The screenwriter doesn't look half bad for this one, and that's usually the first glaring red flag of sucking.

Last Crusade is totally made of win. Mm, maybe I should watch that again tonight.

You know, Temple of Doom is a right awful title when you think about it. Really, not any better than the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Plus, I think there's plenty they could do with the crystal skull. It may not be as established as the Ark of the covenant or the holy Grail, but it's a pretty fascinating object with enigmatic origins.

So... Fie on your pessimism, woman! Fie!

It really IS an awful title. But then, it was also the weakest of the then-trilogy. And c'mon, couldn't we have him going after a bit of the True Cross or at least hook up with Anastasia (hey, the timeline works!)

I really am trying to be optimistic about it. And I like them bringing Marion back. She was awesome. But boy does that make me a little paranoid.

I recently watched the original Star Wars trilogy with the intent of re-examining them critically. It's not easy to do, simply because they're so ingrained in my psyche. So, what I tried to do is examine the pieces of each movie to see where they succeed and where they fail. My ultimate conclusion?

Harrison Ford.

The original Star Wars films are full of win. They have Harrison Ford.
The prequel Star Wars films tried and failed. What are they missing? Harrison Ford.
Even the worst of the Indiana Jones films is better than the best of the Star Wars prequel films. Could it be? Yes it could. Harrison Ford.

In fact, can you name one thing that was not made better by the presence of Harrison Ford?

This brings me The Unified Theory of Harrison Ford. Given the equation: M = xt - St2, where t is the length of the film and S is the Coefficient of Suck, there exists a value x at which the movie M remains both positive and real. As t approaches infinity, that value x approaches Harrison Ford.

I hope this clears up any misunderstandings as to why the new Indiana Jones movie will not suck.

YES.

I am really getting tired of filmmakers who can't come up with a new idea. I mean, get some magnet poetry and make something new! We don't have to remake/remodel things we've already done. It makes the few examples of this that are actually GOOD just...lumped together with all the crap.

The crystal skull's not the worst choice they could have made, but they might have found a better title for it. It sounds like one of the phony titles for the various HP books that JKR debunked on her website. Indiana Jones and the Pillar of Storge!

Oh, shit. This might require some movie poster ripoff fan art.

I looked through all of Worth 1000 and no one's done it yet. Can you believe it!?!?

What have you done?! Now my crossover neurons are all a'twitter. Instead of using his stupid minions, Voldemort totally needed to hire Indy to go after various historical items to do with immortality. Poor Indy would have no idea he was working for the Dark Lord.
