I was planning to move out of my apartment at the end of the year, since my contract should be up in December. I put it off last year because of Nanowrimo (yes, I really am that stupid), but I was preparing to not do Nanowrimo this year so I could get out. The complex I live in has been steadily going downhill, and though the apartments themselves are quite nice, the neighborhood really isn't. I didn't have time to explore much when I moved here in the first place.

But the other day I got a letter from the office saying that my contract is up October 1st. Now, I'm sure I could argue it...but why bother when it means I can get out sooner?

So now I'm apartment hunting, and I'm looking to move to a better part of town. Which unfortunately means I won't be able to afford as much apartment. I'm thinking about getting a studio, and even if I go for a one bedroom it will be smaller than what I've got. So I'm starting to go through all my stuff and see what I can live without, which is SO hard. I'm such a total packrat. I always think, 'But what if I kneed that book on the history of spices someday?' And the worst thing is....sometimes I DO. When I moved down here I got rid of a bunch of my Chinese History books, and wouldn't you know it, last year's Nano book was all Hong Kong.

And then there's things like my manga. Which were so difficult & expensive to get, and I don't think they're worth much anymore, even on ebay. *le sigh*

In other words. I want to be out of here....but I don't want to go through the effort.

If you're looking to downsize your manga, punt me a list. Either I can buy it outright or I'd be happy to store it for a while and you can have it back at will. ^^

I've got one and a half bookcases full of manga. And I don't want to get rid of any of it! (Except for a few random volumes like Death Note vol 1, which I loathed) I just...I mean I haven't re-read Clover in years, I should get rid of it. But what if I want to look at it again later? I'll never find it, especially not in Japanese. And if I wanted to do something like put all of Wish up on ebay, again, since it's out in English nobody WANTS it in Japanese.

And I would feel like abandoning babies if I did anything but ensure they went to a good home.

Dude, you don't like Death Note either? I thought I was the only one.

Man, I can never get rid of Clover. Way too pretty, and the layout is just gorgeous. I think it looks even prettier in Japanese.

I have been poking at manga that I should downsize, and even crap like Legal Drug keeps putting up a decent defense for its existence.

"Hey, the first two volumes were sort of almost not kind of crappy CLAMP is never finishing this one ever which in a way is even better because their endings suck."

Re: packrattage and actually NEEDING all that obscure crap...YES. Huge, huge sympathy for this at the moment. I have a million books on art history and ancient Egypt and I'm sure I could find all the information and images online, but I am still enough of a romantic nerd to want to feel the book in my hands when I'm in geek mode.

I don't know if it's been suggested to you already or not, but try also looking at renting houses. If there is a college nearby, there are usually houses up for rent, and the rates are usually pretty reasonable (At least, the ones in K-Zoo were reasonable for one person paying the rent on a movie theater salary working 30+ hours a week) You get a lot of room that way, plus, there's just something awesome about walking into a HOUSE and calling it yours, even if you're just paying rent.

Having a little over a month to get ready is a good thing...however...my advice to you on the move: I know you don't have a place yet, but start packing now. I packed to move into our house little by little and it made moving SO easy. Everything was labeled (because I had enough time to not just throw things in boxes marked MISC.) and it helped me get settled in the house that much faster. The things you don't use go in boxes on the bottom. The things you might still need go in boxes on the top.

I wish you the best looking for a new place, which is always as exciting as it is scary, and I hope that you get an AWESOME new pad!

Yeah, every day I'm trying to get something done. I've sold back DVD's and 4 grocery sacks full of books. I have some more books yet, and then comes the bags of clothes for goodwill.

I really need to get some boxes next. I've pretty much filled everything that I have left over from the last move.

The problem is finding a place. So far I've only actually been to see 2 apartments. Though both of them are strong possibilities. Most of them are getting weeded out before I even get there, thanks to 'apartmentratings.com' and such.
