This Christmas is not going great so far. I mean, nothing catastrophic. But like. Yeesh. I cannot wait for the holiday season to be over, because I am clearly suffering from a low grade curse. If you have not already been notified of presents from me, they are not coming this year, because I give up. I will catch you up when I see you in person. I'm tapping out.

The Treats

I love to cook and bake, and it's usually a stress reliever for me, but for some reason nothing's going right. I ruined a batch of marshmallows with some artificial flavoring that turned everything nasty and chemical-y. And I didn't have time to make another, which means I missed my chance to send treats back to my Japanese coworkers when we had a visitor come to our company for meetings.

I also ruined 2 batches of caramels, a batch of jam and no-bake energy bars. At this point I'm afraid to even try for cookies because I will set the house on fire.

The Presents

First I sent 3 presents to the wrong address, since I forgot those friends moved. I hoped they'd be forwarded. But present A was flagged as Return to Sender, and shipped back to the Etsy shop. So I asked the guy to send it back out when it got to him, and I'd pay for the additional shipping. That was a week ago now and it still hasn't gotten back to him.

Present B got flagged the same way as present A. And I checked the store and it said that their policy was to cancel the order and refund the money if a package wasn't delivered. So I bought a replacement order and shipped that out. Why wait for it to get returned? Only that one DIDN'T get returned. It got forwarded. So as of today my friend has received 2 sets of Present B.

Present C had a shipping label created last Wednesday but hasn't shipped. A separate present for my mom has also been waiting to be shipped for about a week now. And another present should have arrived by Saturday, but didn't, and I have no tracking number.

Not to mention that I have no idea what to get my dad at all. And when I talked to him on the phone about it he just said 'Yeah, I know. Anyway, I've got to get going.'

The last present to buy online was a joint thing between me and Twig for our old college besties. I decided it would be smarter to make her do the actual purchasing today. Who knows what would happen if I did it?

The Car

Wednesday the low tire pressure light came on on my way home from the gym. So Thursday morning I went over to the gas station to fill them up. I thought to myself 'You have a half day at work so you can go home and make Christmas treats (see marshmallows, caramels and jam above). You could do this when you leave midday when it will be light out.' But I thought 'You're supposed to fix this RIGHT AWAY, and it's not like it's hard to do.' So I went over to fill up the tires at 6:30 am.

It was very cold, and dark, and the instructions on the equipment were kind of vague, and it's been years since I refilled a tire. So instead of re-inflating it, I deflated my tire completely. It took me 3 quarter's worth of air (including going into the gas station shop to break a dollar), and a panicky call in to work before I figured out what I was doing, and got everything put to rights.

But I wanted to make sure everything was safe because Saturday I was going to a friend's Christmas Concert in the Big City. And I was driving another friend of theirs to it. But Saturday morning she had to cancel because she had a bad allergic reaction. So I went alone. And I thought 'You're so early maybe you can get a good parking spot at the Church.' But the Church parking lot was a madhouse. Hard to tell what parts belonged to who, what parts were parking and what parts were back alley and lanes. People were coming in from all directions. And I got flustered and just wanted OUT.

So I backed right into a ramp and busted out my tail light. So stupid! I even have a backup camera!!! Hopefully I didn't damage the railing significantly. But I did leave my number at the church, so I hope they will get back with me if they need to. I hope nobody thinks I damaged it and ran.

The concert was lovely, but it was hard to focus on it. I certainly wasn't feeling any Peace on Earth, I'll tell you that.

This morning I ordered a new tail light, which retails for $300, but I found it for $200. It looks like I *should* be able to do the repair myself. So keep your fingers crossed for me. I need it.

In other words.
BAH HUMBUG.
