iPod Update

So I managed a week without an iPod, and that's about as long as I could take. Saturday I drove down to Columbus where they have an Apple store. (and a book store since I couldn't find my copy of Good Omens) And wow, is the Apple store ever.....Apple.
There wasn't any place to go GET what you wanted, and no where to go check out either. But after a few minutes I tracked down one of the blue shirted Apple people, who grabbed a new Nano for me and took me to another guy, who seemed to be standing in a random area of the store. He was already helping another customer, and to my surprise a cash register drawer suddenly slid out of the side of one of the pine tables. Once he was done with the other customer and started to check me out I said:
"That's a pretty slick cash register."
"Yeah, but you have to be careful, it works on remote control, so you can accidentally trigger it across the room. And it's just at the right level to brain a little kid."
He proceeded to check me out using his iPhone and a tiny portable credit card machine. Then he asked if I wanted the receipt printed out, or just sent by e-mail, so he ended up just sending me the receipt with his iPhone too. It was all very slick and minimalist and pretentious. Can't wait till I have saved up for a Macbook.
The Nano itself is pretty cool, though I kind of miss the old design. This is about halfway between the size of a postage stamp and a post-it note with a touch screen and a clip on the back. The clip is a bit tricky to work without feeling like you're going to damage the screen. But you can rotate the display on the screen to be right side up no matter what direction it's facing. And you can shake it to get a random song.
I didn't actually get pink this time (I know!) but the pink is kind of a pepto color instead of a hot pink. So instead I got a nice golden orange color.
After that I went up to Dublin Ohio and bought some pretty storm colored yarn that I have no idea what to do with, and a decadent dish of funky gourmet ice cream. I got a 'study' of 4 flavors... lavendar, mango lassi, goat cheese with cherries, and a plum lambic sorbet that you could still taste the alcohol in. Not a bad day, all told.
