A lot has happened in July that I'd like to blog about. Going to see all the Mews, Spelunking with my mom, kniitting socks that fit... But I'm Just going to whine about my back
I screwed up my back royally, and ended up going to Urgent Care on Saturday, Mom came and helped me out over the weekend. She was an absolute saint, making meals, dealing with the cat litter, and cleaning everything in sight. I don't think the house has been this clean since before I moved in. I gradually got better and on Wednesday went back to work.
I managed Wednesday, if moving slowly. But Thursday was horrible. The minute I pulled into the parking lot my back started spasming, but I tried to hang in there. I finally gave up and got an appointment with a local chiropractor that my coworkers recommended, and left. I was very early for my appointment, but I once I'd gotten in the car I knew I wouldn't be able to go home and make myself get back in and drive a second time. Just too painful.
The chiropractor, it turns out, only has parallel parking in the front, and with the way I felt and the oncoming traffic I didn't think I'd be able to get OUT of the car without help, so I called the office again and asked for a hand. The chiropractor came out to the car, but only said 'Gee, if it's that bad you better go to Urgent Care, I'll phone ahead and let them know you're coming.' So I went to Urgent Care, only to find out that it didn't open until 5 pm, and ended up in the Emergency Room instead.
They gave me a shot of Demerol which really didn't help at all, and a prescription for a stronger pain relief pill. I called my coworker's wife to see if she could come drive me home. She is a wonderful person and said she'd be right over. The whole conversation was in Japanese, which really mystified the nurse. Then I had to call my mom and ask her to come back again. My poor Mom got less than a day at home before she had to drive another 3 hours back.
The ER doctor told me to get in touch with my family doctor and get an MRI scheduled. She couldn't do that because she's not my doctor. So I called my doctor, only to find out that he's on vacation for the next 3 weeks. But I could go see their nurse-practitioner next Tuesday. The nurse at work told me to try this osteopath's office and explain the situation and they might be able to speed it up, but they insisted that they need my doctor to refer me to them. So then I tried the 'Dial a Nurse' hotline, for advice. She may as well have been an HP computer customer service agent for all the help she was.
So after a few hours of calling around I was able to move my doctor's appointment to Monday, and schedule an appointment with the osteopath on August 4th, with the understanding that I get my doctor to reccomend me seeing them. And at work I've been put on Short Term Disability.
Blargh.
