What goes around
Apr. 22nd, 2008 02:23 pmTrying to be a good citizen pays off. The Japanese guy in my department moved his whole family over to Japan and has been trying to get settled in despite having no English ability whatsoever. So the past week or so I've been helping him get his kids signed up for different activities. Last night I went after hours to help him sign his kids up for the local swim team. I don't really mind doing it, and I figure it's karmic payback for all the people who helped me in Japan.
Then after I helped him fill out the forms and we drove by the local pool he stopped at his house, which is within walking distance of mine, wo I could meet his family.
His kids are adorable, and presented me with a Detective Conan jigsaw puzzle as a present for my help. (I have Conan figurines on my desk so my coworker knew about my love) And his wife gave me a little drawstring bag. It was totally sweet of them, they didn't have to do that.
I have a feeling I'll be seeing a lot of his family on off hours, and I think that'll be nice.
(Even though the puzzle was 500 pieces, it was easy enough for me to put together overnight. I'm thinking of giving it back to the kids so they can play too.)
