And many moooore
Oct. 22nd, 2007 07:45 amI had the most awesome weekend going to visit
bardofawen for his birthday. Driving to Chicago was slightly nerve wracking, but I made it without getting lost even ONCE. (Really it wasn't too bad, it's just that it was late at night and too dark to read my instructions and I get lost soooo easily) It was great to see him again, thanks to the internet it felt like no time had passed at all instead of the years it's been since we'd seen each other. All of Bard's friends are, like himself, lovely, lovely people. You know, the kind of people that are so cool that you're flattered to be included in their company. I haven't laughed that much or that hard in a very long time.
We all got together and redecorated his bedroom in very tasteful colors. (I mean that literally. The paint was 'applesauce cake' and 'breadbasket' and the stain for the trim was 'american walnut.') There was sponge painting and staining, and detail work in gold, very classy stuff. Actually I think doing this giant project was a really good idea. Most everyone there struck me as the type that enjoys having something to do, especially something creative. So we all got to do something big and complicated and cool, and at the same time do something nice for a really good friend.
Bard's mom was a very gracious hostess, letting all these lunatics descend on her home and go crazy with it. She made the most excellent Pac-Man cake. Seriously, Gabe and Tycho would kill each other repeatedly over this cake. Little fondant ghosts and fruit! She also took some of us with her to the awesome Japanese market to get copious amounts of really good sushi. And I found seafood doria sauce! OMG! I haven't had that in 3 years! *love!* But, um yeah, she was also awesome and very sweet and funny.
In other words, I had an excellent time. Happy Birthday
