Double Crosser
Feb. 9th, 2005 10:26 amSo last night was a very good night. Awhile back I checked out a site called Meetup.com to try and find clubs and groups in the area. Most everything was stuff to elect Kerry (and yet still currently meeting). But I did find a local branch of a book club called 'bookcrossing.'
As I found out, bookcrossing is a very cool little thing, and perfect for people like me with more books than I know what to do with. It's a lending library for the digital age. You go and set up an account on bookcrossing.com and you can register any book you have. Then you put a note inside the book saying something along the lines of "This is a free book! It is not a lost book!" plus it's registration number. Then you release the book into the wild. Should someone look it up online, they'll see where it came from. Then they can make an entry on what they thought of the book, where they found it, ect, ect... and release it again. Pretty neat, eh?
So last night was a meeting of the local chapter and a time for 'controlled releases' a.k.a. actually lending someone a book vs. just leaving it in a McDonalds somwhere. The theme was romances, so I brought one of the Georgette Heyer books I couldn't really get into (Sprig Muslin, for those wondering) and traded it. The ladies there were really nice and a lot of fun. We seem to have the same attitudes on life and lit. Plus there was a nice side discussion about Buffy and Firefly.
I think this is the best thing I've done since coming to Dayton.
