Who had a Fabulous weekend?

So Friday I headed up to Detroit to visit my parents for Father's Day. My mother's gone from being an almost-shut-in to being outdoors adventure girl. She's lost something like 60 pounds now and when I got home she was all tan and skinny and fantastic. I'm so proud of her I can't even tell you. She's gotten hard-core into archery, and Dad has gotten sort-of into fly fishing. (It's more of a fill the gap hobby than a genuine obsession for him). So we drove up to an archery store to pick up Mom's repaired arrows, then to a Fishing store so Dad could drool over equipment (while I made sure he bought nothing we got him for Father's Day), and then we stopped at a yarn store and I bought more sock yarn.

I did not mean to buy sock yarn. I only meant to ask if they would show me how to do circular knitting because for once youtube was no help. (Actually it turned out I was doing it fine, but I just hadn't done enough rows for it to tighten up, but I didn't know that yet) They were willing, but it was 10 minutes to closing and somehow I just ended up buying yarn instead. It was nice yarn though. (I bought #1, the blue and gray). Then we went home and had hamburgers and strawberry shortcake. We watched a Ninja Warrior Marathon and I knitted another dalek washcloth in 3 hours flat, cast on to cast off. (srsly, I gave myself a BLISTER)

Saturday we split up, and I went to another yarn store and cried, and they showed me how to knit in the round, and another lady asked my opinions on colors for her dog sweater. The 4th time she asked about colors I was feeling a little overwhelmed.

Her: "Which of these colors pops more?"
Me: ".....You know, I think the dog is colorblind."
Her: "..............I know THAT. The color is for me!"
Me: "then you should pick something YOU like."

I did not buy even more sock yarn. No, I just bought more of the purple yarn I used for my winter scarf so I can make a hat and fingerless gloves to match, and a really pretty green for a lace scarf at some point that will probably go to my Grandma. (I got the Pea Soup color)

I met back up with my parents and we drove out to a park so dad could scout fly fishing places. We happened to drive past another archery club, so we stopped inside. They were doing a special Father's Day weekend, and there was a table set up for Fly Tying. Mom scoped out the club while Dad tied some flies, and I knitted.

Archery guys: "What kind of Fly are YOU tyin'?'
Me: "A sock fly."

We went from that club to another archery club where my parents are actually members, and I knitted while they shot. Then we went and saw Star Trek. I'm so glad I got to see it again. But I was too wrapped up in the story to find the tribble AGAIN.

Sunday dad made Blueberry waffles, and we went off to Kensington Park and hiked around the lake to a rookery. We saw a doe and her fawn, 2 osprey, some blue heron, an egret, a GIGANTIC snapping turtle, a bunch of adult swans and four cygnets. We also spotted these weird clumps of what looked like spit on plants all along the trail. My guess was that they were some kind of bug egg, but we asked a ranger and they turned out to be spittlebugs, which I've never heard of. Very cool.

We then went to the Japanese grocery where I found Tiramisu Pocky and Royal Milk tea.

After that I had to drive back to Ohio which is a long, flat, boring drive. But luckily I have the audiobook version of 'The Adventure of English' to keep me company. Yes, I really am that much of a dork.

And to top it all off when I signed on to Ravelry I found that someone had answered my joking plea to make a 'Buy More' logo wash cloth pattern for the show 'Chuck.'

Life is good. And now I fall over and sleep. Goodnight!
