At the Drivethru:

Me: I'd like a fish sandwich and an apple pie please.
Kid: Would you like to make that two apple pies for a dollar?
Me: No, just one.
Kid: One's 89 cents. Just 11 cents more will get you two.
Me: Well, there's only one of me.
Kid: ....well you could still EAT two.
Me: XD I don't need the extra calories.
Kid: Do you have a dog?

Man, Persistent Clerk Kid is PERSISTENT.

Did you still get two? I have wondered about this myself - does the button say "2 Apple Pies" with no option for one?

No, just the one.
(Now if they had been the old fried apple pies there would have been no question. Mmmm.)

Some locations do (there's one in Wheeling, IL with a highly hispanic patronage that I've been to - the Pie there is made more into an Empanada), but at most of them they are baked/flash frozen/reheated now.

Really? I thought the baked thing was nationwide. Now I've got to move to Wheeling. (or back to Japan, which still had them in 04 at least)

But, but he has to eat all the unsold ones before he can go home! It's management's new rule. Couldn't you cut him a break and buy two just this one time?

But, wow. If kids these days don't understand the concept of not ordering food you don't want to eat, that... kind of worries me.

Me: I just want this one.
Clerk: But it's buy one get one half off!
Me: I don't want any of the others.
Clerk: But it's buy one get one half off!!
Me: Look, One is still cheaper than Two, do you understand this?

*delurks* Checking in from retail world. . . You have just impacted the statistics for that clerk's "IPT" - Items Per Transaction. If a clerk doesn't have a high enough IPT, ie, get enough people to buy just one more thing, then they get fired. Same thing with the credit cards/extra services/insurance things all over the place. The stores want people who can boost business. So, er, don't be surprised if that kind of thing increases everywhere. Don't be mad at the clerks when they suggest things, they're just trying to keep their job and doing what they're told to do. At the same time, don't feel bad saying no, either. Get what you want! XD

Oh we were both cracking up over it, honestly. There aren't many places to eat in St. Marys (we have the McDonalds, an Arbys and a Taco Bell, and for a Bob Evans you've got a 15 minute drive) they do plenty of business. I'm not too worried about his bottom line. I'm more worried about the line of my bottom.

If only it wasn't pretty much the only place to eat in town! And the only place that has coffee before 7 am. (since I have to be AT work at 7) This move has been so bad for my waistline!
