There's a quote about buying books, and when you have a bit of spare cash, buying food. I've always thought it was pretty true in my case, but this weekend I realized JUST how true it is. My laptop has been dying for awhile. It's not really a surprise, it's 8 years old, and on it's second keyboard. It freezes about once an hour while using it. It hasn't really been a problem, since I mostly used the desktop. But ever since I set up wireless internet in the house for the Wii I've been using it a lot more. It' s just nice to type from wherever, to chat with Mom while watching Project Runway, to take it with when I visit my parents.
But there are other things I need, right? Like a coffee table. Or a dining room set. Or more cooking things like a new microwave.
And yet, today I walked out of best buy with a new laptop. >.>
But I do not come before you today to tell you of my stupidity. I come to to ask you for your help. The computer needs a name. My first laptop was named Archie Goodwin, the narrator of Rex Stout's Nero Wolfe mysteries. When it died in Japan it was replaced with Aoshima, a detective from the Japanese show 'Rhythm and Police.' I feel like I should name this one after a fictional detective too. The laptop almost got named Nero because it's HUGE, but that series has already had it's turn. Lord Peter Wimsey was also in the running since i'm obsessed with the Sayer's mysteries now. And I considered Amelia, for Elizabeth Peter's Amelia Peabody mysteries...it would keep the theme of detectives that start with A nicely, but I tend to think of my computers as boys.
For the time being it's named Jeeves, from P.G. Wodehouse's Jeeves's stories.
I don't have a paid account anymore so I can't put together a poll, but please help me name the laptop in comments.
a) Lord Peter Death Bredon Wimsey (or some portion of the name, and yes, his middle name IS Death)
b) Jeeves
c) Hero of Alexandria (which would work since my wireless network is Lib of Alexandria and the Wii is Archimedes)
d) Shakespeare
e) something else in the comments
