I had an absolutely lovely weekend. [livejournal.com profile] groveperson, her DH and DS came over. (That would be Darling Husband and Darling Son, not 'Deathly Hallows' and 'Nintendo DS') I made potato salad and Omuraisu for lunch. The potato salad was SO much easier to make after I went and got a potato masher, Alton Brown and his unitasker-hate be damned. I like cooking for other people much more than cooking for myself, so this was a treat for me.

Then we went to the local Summerfest which took us about 15 minutes to go through, including snacks. DS was a little young for the rides, and though the live music was actually pretty good, we didn't really want to stick around for it. All in all I didn't need reminding I live in Hicksville, but the sign for 'Cinnimon Rolls' gave it a nice emphasis. (Out of 4 signs on that truck for cinnamon rolls, only 2 were spelled right)

Then we headed out to the lake, which was beautiful, only we hadn't remembered to grab things like towels, so we went and played on the swings instead. All adults should play on the swings from time to time, just to keep their hand in it.

It was lovely to see some friends, and nice to be able to play the host for once. I hope we get to get together more often.

Also this weekend I finished 'Strong Poison,' but I'll put that half of the babble under

This re-introduction to Sayers came through book at the library called 'Triple Wimsey' and had 3 books in one. I figured it was a great way to go about it, and it was. But at the same time I have to say 'WTF' to the publishers. They didn't even put them in order in the book. 'Strong Poison' should have come BEFORE 'Murder Must Advertise,' both chronologically or in publication date.

The book was great, and now I'm eager to read more. Luckily I picked up 'Nine Tailors' at a used bookstore last week. I've also been using Netflix to feed my obsession. This week I've gotten a disk each of Jeeves & Wooster and Lord Peter Wimsey goodness. But I have to say I was disappointed in the Wimsey DVD for 'Murder Must Advertise.' Not that it was bad, it was just that the lead actor wasn't ALL who I pictured for Lord Peter.

But then yesterday after my friends left I tried the Netflix download feature to watch the Strong Poison DVD, which has a different cast. And let me tell you that god did not want me to watch it last night. I tried to set it up on the laptop in the living room, but it said that I didn't have enough memory. I cleared up some memory, but then my wireless signal decided to be low for no reason (you're the only thing ON the network! How can you have a bad connection!?)

So then I decided to switch to the desktop. And the very moment I clicked on the Play button I had a blackout. Grr.

But I prevailed!! I watched it despite everything. And it was awesome. That actor was pretty much EXACTLY who I pictured for Lord Peter. Loved it so much. I can't wait to read the other Wimsey books that have that cast so I can watch those DVDs.

Ironically, Hicksville is the next NYC suburb over from the one in which I grew up! Your town would fit in the shopping mall there. We had a great time, will share swinging photos eventually. Caveat on the adult swinging comment, beware of motion sickness.

It's not really a unitasker if you could mash potatoes AND beat someone to death with it. ^_^

Well, the masher does very well against boiled potatoes, but I don't think it's much for bludgeoning. I mean, I'm sure Tony Jaa could manage some mayhem with it, but I'd go for one of my kitchen knives for that sort of thing, cliche as it is.

the idea of 'hicksville' being a NYC suburb is just wrong. Next time you come up we'll bring beach towels and such for some fun in the lake. (Well, maybe not, since with our track record the next time will be December)
