As much as I'd like to, I can't really snub romance novels because 1)they make an incredible amount of money, and 2)I read smut online. Though my mom and I did have a lot of fun with them when I got old enough to appreciate how bad most of the sex scenes are. We would take turns reading them aloud and substituting little kid words for the genitalia, like, "pee wee" or my personal favorite, "Mr. Weedle-Weedle."
Sounds like you had a lot of fun. Sometimes being around other creative people, whether their interests are the same as yours or not, can be a tremendous inspiration.
