Honestly I find the Shakespeare wasn't Shakespeare theories really patronizing. They mostly seem to insist that a Stratford commoner couldn't be that educated. Though we know that the public schools of the time were really demanding. And there's a lot technical vocabulary relating to leather in his plays, which makes sense as his father made gloves...and legal terms, and his father was constantly in one legal battle or another. And the country vocab would be words that Bacon and other noble/gentry candidates would have no way of knowing.
My favorite far-flung theory about Shakespeare is the Seekrit Katholic one. Though it hasn't a shred of proof to support it either, it's fun to imagine. (Though pulling Catholic vs. Protestant + Copernicus gives some REALLY interesting twists to Hamlet)
