Be Very Afraid
Oct. 10th, 2007 09:02 amThere are some days that I am amazed that any cars function whatsoever. Observe this actual discussion between me and one of our customers that has taken place over the course of the last month. Names have been avoided to protect the idiot.

Mr. Idiot,
During production today we found that one of the dimensions for the part we make you was out of spec. The tab is slightly off of a 90 degree angle. Could you let me know if they would cause functional problems, or if they might be acceptable to your company. I will send you some sample pieces.
Sincerely,
Ann

Mr. Idiot,
Have you been able to make a judgment on those parts? I hate to pressure you considering that the issue is our responsibility, but I am running out of other lot numbers to run, and I need to know whether these are good or not.
Sincerely,
Ann

Ann,
I never got your parts. But don't you agree that it would be better to go ahead and rework the parts rather than ship us NG material? That bend is pretty important.

Mr. Idiot,
According to the tracking number it was delivered two days ago at 8:15 in the morning and signed for by J. Doe. I agree that we don't want to send your company any parts that can't be used, but I have a great deal of inventory and don't want to scrap them if there's any chance that they can be used. I don't think that reworking will be possible in this case.
Sincerely,
Ann

Ann,
I got your parts last night and there isn't any looseness of the rivet or missing washers. Keep up the good work!

Mr. Idiot,
The issue was about the bend on the tab. Can you let me know if that area is acceptable?
Thank you,
Ann
Hopefully it will go somewhere useful from here. But I have a feeling that these parts are going to rust before I get him to reply one way or the other.
