I got a lot accomplished today, and spent more money than I think I ever have in one blow.

After work I drove up to get the key to my new place, and the wonkiest garage door opener that was ever invented (more on that later). Then I headed downtown to get all my utilities turned on. The area has gotten a ton of rain, and the river is scary swollen. It was a bit unnerving to be filling out the paperwork while the lady behind the counter is saying, "Oh yeah, they got out the sandbags, and they're thinking about declaring an emergency in the county." My house should be fine, it's uphill. But it was still a bit, "Eep, which way to the renters insurance??" I got a new recycling bin without a lid...they said not to recycle paper when it rains. Why no lid? And found out that in St. Marys you have to pay for every bag of garbage you throw out. Has anyone else ever heard of this? You buy a sheet of stickers, and every bag of garbage has to have a sticker on it, or they won't pick it up. Crazy.

Then I went to the bank because it was across the street from the utility place and I wasn't sure if I needed to transfer anything. The manager was SO awesome. Even though I technically didn't need to do anything she switched up my account info, set up an automatic feed to my savings account and switched my debit and credit cards for ones that will get me points & cash and such. She's also on the board for the local art scene and gave me a brochure for art classes.

After that I went to my house and as I drove up the garage door opened without me triggering the remote at all. And pushing the remote didn't have any effect on the door at all. I even tried waving it like a magic wand. I heard it go up and down a few times while I was in the house too. (The owner knows it's wonky and the new remote should be here in a few days) It was weird to walk into this empty place, that feels distinctly like a house and not an apartment and think 'Mine.'

Then I drove back to Dayton and Best Buy where I looked at ovens & fridges. But I wasn't really feeling it. So I went over to Lowes and ended up with these two. The fridge was $200 off, and there was a deal where you get another $100 off for buying two appliances. It's more money than I meant to spend, but I think I got better appliances for it. As decreed by [livejournal.com profile] bardofawen, the Fridge will be christened 'Clooney.' I'm thinking of naming the oven either 'Cary' or "Grant.' I don't know. What do you think?
