Thwarted again!

Man, I asked my dad if he'd like me to make something nice for him for Father's Day / his birthday, a cake or pie or something now that I've been doing all this cooking from scratch. He was all for it, but Mom said she'd already bought a box mix and can of frosting.

This happened on Mother's Day where I offered to cook something fancy or take her out for dinner, but she just wanted hamburgers. AND on my birthday where I had plans to make a nice dinner, but my mom changed the weekend I'd come up to visit and it was another box cake and ordinary dinner.

I shouldn't feel put out, but I'd really LIKE to cook something for my parents. Feeding someone else is 2/3rds the fun of cooking. Oh well, maybe during shutdown.

Aw, that sucks. Hopefully you'll get to cook for them soon!

I ran into this during the reunion. I had plans to try Not So Humble's amaretto lemon squares...but grandma made lemon pie. Not scratch lemon pie. Cool whip and lemon jello pie.

I think it's just a parental thing. Mom has some Girl Scout thing that runs until 9:30 every night this week, so I'm asking them, "do you want me to cook? What do you want me to cook? Are they going to feed you at this thing? Okay, so where are you going to get your dinner this week?" and they're both like, "meh, whatever you want to do."

Because clearly, we're secretly six years old and can't be trusted with a hot stove.

Wow, I loved it when my daughter was still living with us and cooking dinner! And sometimes cookies. I just don't think your parents know what they're missing!

Maybe you should just show up with something --cupcakes? Or maybe you should insist. It could be that they think that they are saving you the work/inconvenience and don't understand that you truly desire to do this for them.
