Truthiness + Cooking = Food Poisioning

I will post about my weekend in a minute. But first, I have a mini rant. Palinesque Anti-Intellectualism has trickled down to Canadian cartoon shows. While eating my raisin bran this morning in the lobby they had a kid's cartoon about 'racer dogs' on the tv. (I'm not sure why, there were no kids around) And the dogs were having a cooking contest. But the main dog couldn't figure out what to cook, so it got a cookbook.

And the other dogs told him, 'You can't use a cookbook! You need to cook something that comes from your heart!'

Agreed! If I'd been writing it, I would have said, Ok, dog wants to win competition, so he tries to food he doesn't like, but he thinks the judges do. So the 'be true to yourself' part comes in with making food he loves, and doing it well.

*nodnod* Yeah, just something nice and sensible. I sometimes get the feeling that a lot of what goes for "kids cartoons" these days isn't so much for or about kids as it is about the adult artists who draw them. Don't get me wrong, there was always that second level to cartoons (e.g. Animaniacs), but I remember growing up with so many different types of them, plus, most of them were rather carefully written.
