Writer's Block: Know by Heart

[Error: unknown template qotd]

I always thought that Enya's "Sail Away" was "Save the Whales." Then I was very confused when Crystal Light used it in an ad campaign. Especially when it had all these sailboats and stuff in it. I mean, they were both ocean-y, but where were the whales? At the time I was very impressed with Crystal Light's commitment to the environment.

Then someone pointed out the real lyrics and I felt like such a dork.

...Still sounds like 'Save the Whales' to me.

Also, Fall Out Boys 'This Ain't a Scene it's an Arms Race' there's NO WAY 'scene' is what they're really singing. The only way that would be possible would be to pronounce the last 'e' in scene. Drives me right up the wall. City, CD, something. But not Scene.

When I was little, I thought the line in Joy to the World was "Let every heart prepare him brooms."

This didn't make any sense to me. So a few years later, I decided that the line was "Let every heart prepare him prunes." My mom, when she heard this, almost hurt herself laughing.

She said I wasn't sure why the Lord was coming, but at least I knew he was going to be pretty regular when he got here!

Re: Fall Out Boy...

Patrick Stump(f) sings with a Chicago accent, added to the fact that he's kinda mealy-mouthed to begin with ([livejournal.com profile] roseinmist went to High School with him, she has video of him playing Ani DiFranco in the Glenbrook South Variety Show).

So "This ain't a Scene-eh..." is in line with his MO.

The Chicago accent is really notable in "Sugar We're Going Down":
"Why don't you show me/ A little bit of spark/ You've been saving for his mat-ter-ess/ Love"

I knew it wasn't correct, but I couldn't shake the idea that the Red Hot Chili Peppers were singing, "Fly away on my cell phone..." in "Zephyr."

There is a line in Placebo's 'Second Sight' that when it first came out Flynn and I were pretty sure was either 'break back knives for you' or 'break black knives for you'.

Then it turned out it was actually 'break backsides for you'.

OUR VERSION WAS BETTER, BRIAN MOLKO.
