I think one of the great things about plays is that you can do so much with what's not there.

Like, in As You Like it, they made it so that Oliver figured out who Rosalind was when he picked her up from her faint. And then implied that he told Orlando, so that going into the next scene, Orlando knows who Rosalind is.

And I think you can make Shrew funny, and not misogynist. I've seen some 'apologist' essays, where they're trying to say, 'no no, by the end Petruchio and Kate are in on it together, and it's all wink wink nod nod.'

And I think that the fact that you can play it that was is OSSIM. I just don't think it's what Shakespeare actually intended. I think it's relying too much on the Cult idea that Shakespeare was perfect, and that his values were so far ahead of the times that they're OUR values. But that's ok. We can take him in the context of his times, and we can play it within the context of ours.
